Strategy Design Essentials Description
Strategy Design Essentials is a NinjaTrader 8 strategy programming course: a hands-on crash course that takes you from a blank template to a working trade system. It's the essence of my long 120-plus lecture NinjaTrader course, cut down to strategy development only, with the techniques I use every time I build a strategy. The goal is your first trade system coded in about three hours. To keep it that short, it skips indicators, add-ons and C# basics.
What's inside. 14 lectures, about 3 hours, in two sections. The main section builds one strategy together, step by step: a basic strategy template, modifying its parameters (including applying a TypeConverter to them), an entry module, stops and profit targets, a trail stop, splitting positions and breaking even. The Bonuses section covers problems you'll meet sooner or later: a way to cut strategy optimization time, debugging inside the Strategy Analyzer, indexing bars when the strategy runs on each tick versus on bar close, catching ignored orders in Trace Orders, and a fix for stop orders ignored because of granularity.
What you'll be able to do. Code a complete NinjaTrader 8 strategy with entries, stops, profit targets, a trail stop, position splits and break even. Because we build it in a modular way, you leave with a framework you can reuse again and again for your own strategy ideas, and you'll know how to structure the code so it stays easy to extend. When something goes wrong, you'll know how to debug in the Strategy Analyzer and find out why an order was ignored.
Who it's for. Traders who want to get up and running with strategy code fast, and coders who want a clean, reusable structure for their NinjaTrader strategies. There are no C# basics lessons, so knowing a little C# helps.
Why it still matters with AI. AI like Claude can write a NinjaScript strategy in seconds. But to check what it wrote, and to fix it when a stop is ignored or a position split goes wrong, you need to understand how a strategy is built and how NinjaTrader handles its orders. Those are exactly the essentials these 14 lectures teach. Everything in the course is coded on screen, step by step. My advice is the same as always: type it yourself as you watch rather than copy it, then use AI like Claude to explain, check or extend what you built. That's how it sticks. Enjoy the course!
