  • Split strategy logic using OnMarketData

Developing Strategies for OnTick Execution Description

Developing Strategies for OnTick Execution is a course on coding OnEachTick and tick replay strategies for NinjaTrader 8. Tick replay, on-tick execution and tick-level strategies are a tricky business, and not only in NinjaTrader. I've hit turbulence many times when developing for tick replay: it just works differently, and it's risky to get wrong. In this course I share the experience and the tricks I worked out while working with ticks in NinjaTrader, and the best practices I suggest. It's not an intro to strategy coding: it's about what changes when your strategy works tick by tick. What's inside. One section of five lessons, about two hours of video. It starts with IsFirstTickOfBar and Tick Replay logic, and how tick replay executes on historical data. The second lesson gets intrabar values of higher timeframe indicators, so your strategy can use them before the higher timeframe bar closes. Then comes the big one: handling overfills, a huge issue not only on tick execution but also on fast exotic bar types. Lesson four covers high order fill resolution and two ways to enable it and work with it. The last lesson shows how to split your logic using OnMarketData. What you'll be able to do. You'll know what tick replay is and how to backtest strategies whose logic works inside the bar. You'll understand how execution differs between historical and live, sim and replay, so you know what to expect from each. You'll be able to handle overfills, enable high order fill resolution, read higher timeframe indicators intrabar and split your logic with OnMarketData. Who it's for. If you already code NinjaScript strategies and OnEachTick or Tick Replay has left you confused, this course is for you. It assumes you know your way around a strategy and want best practices for tick-level work. It also helps if you trade fast exotic bar types, where overfills show up too. Why it still matters with AI. AI like Claude can write an OnEachTick strategy now. But tick-level code is where a strategy can behave one way on historical data and another way live. To check, fix and change what AI writes, you need to know how NinjaTrader executes on each tick, in tick replay and when orders overfill. That's the part this course teaches. Everything in the course is coded on screen, step by step. My advice is the same as always: type it yourself as you watch rather than copy it, then use AI like Claude to explain, check or extend what you built. That's how it sticks. Enjoy the course!
