ATM Strategies Description
ATM Strategies is an ATM strategy course for NinjaTrader 8, about combining manual and automated trading. When I started exploring ATM strategies, they looked very mysterious to me, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much they can do. An ATM lets you build half-automated setups quickly, trade more systematically and stick to your rules, automate setups without writing code, and still use strategy code for the calculations and the entries. The coding part is optional: skip it, and you should still be able to build your own ATM strategies quickly.
What's inside. Two hours, 12 lectures in two parts. The first part, Working with ATM and Strategy Code, builds a system together. After the logic, you create UI elements on the chart, get a drawing object from the chart into the code, and code an entry that triggers when price crosses it, in our case a line. Then the strategy starts an ATM and replaces its stops and targets with values calculated in code, and you're free to manage the position by hand. The second part, Exploring ATM Functionality, covers a simple setup with Auto Break Even, Auto Trail, using ATMs in the SuperDOM, simulated orders, the Chase and Reverse functions, and MIT for profit with stop limit for stops.
What you'll be able to do. You'll be able to set up ATM strategies with stop strategies, Auto Break Even and Auto Trail without coding, and know what the ATM functions in Chart Trader do. On the coding side, you'll know how to start an ATM from your strategy code and control its stop and profit orders, how to create your own buttons on the chart, and how to subscribe to events like a mouse click, mouse move or key press.
Who it's for. Manual traders who want more structure in how they manage trades can take the second part on its own, with no coding at all. If you write NinjaScript strategies, the first part shows how to hand a position from your code to an ATM, a nice way to mix automated entries with manual management. Some NinjaScript helps for that part.
Why it still matters with AI. AI like Claude can write the code that starts an ATM, but ATMs have their own logic, with stop strategies, Auto Break Even, Auto Trail and order types like MIT and stop limit. To check what the code really does with your stops and targets, you need both sides, and this course teaches both. Everything in the course is coded on screen, step by step. My advice is the same as always: type it yourself as you watch rather than copy it, then use AI like Claude to explain, check or extend what you built. That's how it sticks. Enjoy the course!
