Creating Addons for NinjaTrader 8 Description
Creating Addons for NinjaTrader 8 is an add-on development course: it takes you past indicators and strategies, into your own windows, tabs and charts inside NinjaTrader 8. Analysis is a big part of the trading game. We want to analyze trades, data, decisions, anything really, and NinjaTrader lets us build add-ons, pass any information into them and analyze it there. For the course I invented a scenario: a strategy collects data, and the add-on turns it into charts and statistics on how that data behaves. The scenario is made up, but the same approach works for absolutely any data you want to study.
What's inside. Two hours, 10 lectures. After the introduction you add a custom menu item, then a custom window with tabs, learn how to debug your add-on, and use XAML inside NinjaTrader. Then comes the research part: passing data from a strategy to the add-on, creating charts with free third-party components, connecting the charts to the strategy data, adding data tables and tabs, and the final research.
What you'll be able to do. You'll be able to create custom windows and tabs inside NinjaTrader, add your own menu item, and use XAML to build them. You'll know how to gather data inside your strategy, pass it to an add-on, and calculate statistics on it, then show the results in charts and data tables. You end up with your own research add-on that you can point at the questions you care about.
Who it's for. Traders who like to research their data before building a strategy, and NinjaScript coders who are ready to use NinjaTrader for more than strategies and indicators. The course passes data from a strategy and works with XAML, so it suits you best if you already write some NinjaScript.
Why it still matters with AI. AI like Claude can write an add-on window for you, but add-ons hook into NinjaTrader itself: menu items, windows and tabs, XAML, and data passed in from a strategy. To check, debug and change what AI writes there, you need to understand how those pieces connect, and that's exactly what this course teaches. Everything in the course is coded on screen, step by step. My advice is the same as always: type it yourself as you watch rather than copy it, then use AI like Claude to explain, check or extend what you built. That's how it sticks. Enjoy the course!
