NC Trend Control Description

NC Trend Control is a trend strategy with a choppiness filter for NinjaTrader 8, and it comes with the full C# source code. Every trader wants the best filter for sideways markets, so I put two, ADX and a Volatility Switch, in front of a simple trend system to test side by side. Honest note: there's no profit target. Every trade ends at its trailing stop. How it works. It's fully automated on bar close, one position at a time, long or short. Entry Signal is OpenGap (default; the bar opened beyond the previous high or low), CloseOverRange (it closed beyond it), EmaCross (the close crosses an EMA of Period 50) or BollingerBreakOut (the close leaves Bollinger Bands, Period 50, StDev 1). Filter Type (None by default) can block a signal. ADX needs the ADX (14) above ADX Threshold (25). VolSwitch needs NC Volatility Switch, a rank of current volatility against the last 160 bars, above Vol Switch Value (0.5), so higher than usual. Entry is at market for Position Size (1), with a stop-market stop. Trail Type ATR (default) keeps it 2 x ATR (14) behind each close. DynamicEMA uses the distance from price to an EMA whose period drops each bar from 150 to 15 (EMA Start Period, EMA End Period, EMA Increment 2), so the stop tightens as the trade ages. The stop only moves in your favor. Smart Trail (off) moves it only while Stochastic %K (14) is above 70 for longs or below 30 for shorts (Threshold 30). What you see. The EMA or Bollinger Bands are drawn for those entries, and the filter gets its own panel: NC ADX Suite with DI+, DI- and ADX, or the Volatility Switch histogram, blue above 0.5 and violet red below. Smart Trail adds Stochastics. A dashed red line shows the current stop. How to use it. Pick an entry, then compare None, ADX and VolSwitch in the Strategy Analyzer to see what each filter removes. Exit on session close is off, so trades can stay open overnight; switch it on to be flat at the close. Run it on Sim101 and in the Strategy Analyzer first, and use it at your own risk. Make it yours. Like all my frameworks, it comes with a code review video that explains the entries, filters and trails. Use it as is, learn from the code, or change it yourself or with AI like Claude. You could add a profit target, an opposite-signal exit, a session window, or your own chop filter. Each entry and filter is a small block picked by a setting, so a fifth entry is a few lines. Have some good trades!
