NC Smart Grid Bot Description
NC Smart Grid Bot is a semi-automated grid bot for NinjaTrader 8, and it comes with the full C# source code. I built it for traders who like averaging into pullbacks but want to see the risk first. The edge is volatility: the more you average in, the smaller the bounce you need to get out. The flip side: the position grows each time price moves against you, and a strong trend runs to the stop.
How it works. Click LONG GRID or SHORT GRID while flat. The grid step is ATR (Grid Size ATR Period 14) times Grid Size ATR Multiplier (2), rounded to the tick. For a long grid, the first buy limit sits one step below the last price, with Grid Size Levels (10) entry levels one step apart and a stop one step past the last. Until the first fill, the grid follows each new high, at most once per bar. The first fill gets a target one step above it, plus the stop. Each next level adds Position Size (1), up to 10 contracts by default, and moves the target to the average price plus one tick, so a small bounce closes it all. After the target or the stop, the grid clears and waits for your next click. Shorts mirror this, and positions are kept overnight.
What you see. Each level is a blue dashed line. With Display Risks on, each one shows the open loss if price gets there, so the last line is your full loss at the stop, before slippage and commission. The orange line is the target and its profit. An ATR panel is added. Chart Trader gets LONG GRID and SHORT GRID, green or red while active, plus + and - buttons. It calculates on each tick.
How to use it. Size the trade by that last label. While flat, + and - change the multiplier by Multiplier Increment (0.1), down to 0.3. Clicking an active grid button again cancels the waiting order; an open position keeps its stop and target. The grid starts by hand, so the Strategy Analyzer can't test it. Run it on Sim101 or Market Replay first, and use it at your own risk.
Make it yours. Like all my frameworks, it comes with a code review video that explains how the grid is built and managed. Use it as is, learn from the code, or change it yourself or with AI like Claude. You could restart the grid after a target, add a trend filter, or cap the loss in dollars. Grid, orders and executions are kept apart, so it's an easy base to build on. Have some good trades!
