NC Bollinger Break Out Description
NC Bollinger Break Out is a Bollinger Band breakout strategy for NinjaTrader 8, and it comes with the full C# source code. I kept it simple on purpose: catch the trend moves that break out of a channel, and stay out while price drifts inside it. The honest part: in choppy markets every breakout system takes false signals.
How it works. It's fully automated and trades on bar close. NC Smart Bollinger builds the channel: a middle line from the Channel MA Base Type (EMA by default; seven more, including VWAP) over Channel Period (14), with bands one Offset Multiplier (1) of standard deviation or ATR away. A close that crosses above the upper band goes long, one that crosses below the lower band goes short. On Channel Input RSI, the RSI breaks out instead. Optional filters: MACD (12, 26, 9) passes longs only while MACD is below zero but above its signal line, and the reverse for shorts; RSI (14) passes longs between 20 and 90, shorts between 10 and 70. Trade Direction is Both, Long or Short. It enters at market for Position Size 1 plus Position Size 2 (1 + 1), with a stop-market stop 2 x ATR (14) away and limit targets at 2 and 3 ATR, one for each part. After target 1 fills, the stop moves to break-even plus Break Even Offset Size (5 ticks). Opposite Signal Action can Ignore (default), Close or Reverse, and Middle Channel Exit closes on a cross back over the middle line.
What you see. The channel is drawn on price, dashed dark orchid bands around a dark cyan middle line. RSI mode and the filters get their own panels. During a trade, dashed lime green lines mark the targets and a dashed red line the stop, which jumps to break-even.
How to use it. Start with the default channel, then add the filters one at a time and compare in the Strategy Analyzer. ATR-based exits scale with volatility. Exit on session close is off, so trades can stay open overnight; switch it on if you trade intraday. Run it on Sim101 and in the Strategy Analyzer first, and use it at your own risk.
Make it yours. Like all my frameworks, it comes with a code review video that explains how the channel, filters and exits are built. Use it as is, learn from the code, or change it yourself or with AI like Claude. You could add an ADX filter, a session window, or a trailing stop after break-even. Each filter is one condition in a list, so it's an easy base to build on. Have some good trades!
