NC Ball Drop Description
NC Ball Drop is a retracement strategy for NinjaTrader 8, and it comes with the full C# source code. The idea: after a run of swings in one direction, wait for the first swing the other way, then enter on the pullback at a better price. To turn that into fixed rules, I built it on my own swing detection and Fibonacci levels. The honest part: a waiting order stays until it fills or price reaches the target, so it can sit for a while.
How it works. NC Swing Light finds the swings: a swing high needs Hill Size Bars (1) on each side at least Minimum Drop Size Points (0.25) lower, and lows mirror that. With Entry Type TrendPullbackReversal (the default), higher highs followed by a lower low set up a short, a sell limit at Entry Order % (76.4) of the way from that low back up to the last high; longs mirror this. TrendContinuation trades pullbacks within a run of higher highs and lows, or lower ones; Both uses either. A run must be longer than Trend Size (0). After the fill, a short gets a stop Stop Order % (10) of the range above the high and a limit target Profit Order % (10) below the low (longs mirror), and one cancels the other. The optional MA Filter needs the last swing low above a 200 EMA for longs, and the last swing high below it for shorts. Direction is Both and Position Size 1; it's fully automated on bar close.
What you see. Lime arrows mark swing highs and orange-red arrows swing lows. While a setup waits, its entry (blue), stop (red) and target (green) levels are drawn, solid for longs and dashed for shorts. With MA Filter on, the EMA is a thick indigo line. Show Info hides the arrows and level lines.
How to use it. Minimum Drop Size Points is in price points, not ticks or percent, so set it for each instrument. Raise Trend Size to wait for longer runs, or lower Entry Order % to enter on shallower pullbacks. Run it on Sim101 and in the Strategy Analyzer first, and use it at your own risk.
Make it yours. Like all my frameworks, it comes with a code review video that explains how it finds setups and places orders. Use it as is, learn from the code, or change it yourself or with AI like Claude. You could cancel a waiting order after a few bars, add a session window, or move the stop to break-even halfway. The swing detection is its own indicator, so it's an easy base for other swing strategies. Have some good trades!
