NC Stock Sectors Description

NC Stock Sectors is an S&P 500 stock sectors indicator for NinjaTrader 8, and it comes with the full C# source code. UVOL and DVOL tell you what the whole market is doing, but not where the buying is. I wanted that breadth for each of the 11 sectors, so I put 503 S&P 500 stocks into the code, sorted by sector. The honest part: it loads one data series per stock, so you need a data feed with US stocks, and All loads all 503 at once, which takes time and memory. How it works. Pick a Display Sector: IT (75 stocks, like AAPL, MSFT and NVDA), Health (60), Finance (76), ConsumerD (47, consumer discretionary), Industrial (83), Communication (22), ConsumerS (34, consumer staples), Energy (21, like XOM and CVX), Utilities (31), Materials (24), RealEstate (30) or All. The default is IT. Each stock gets your chart's bar type and period; tickers missing from your instrument database are skipped with a warning in the NinjaTrader log. On every chart bar it checks each stock's bar that closed in the same time window: up if it closed above its open, down if below, and unchanged stocks don't count. Calculation picks the output: UpDownValuesCount (the default) counts up and down stocks, UpDownValuesPercent shows them as a percent of the loaded stocks, and UVOLDVOL sums the volume of the up stocks and of the down stocks. What you see. Up as green bars and Down as red bars in their own panel, with both numbers in the Data Box. To follow several sectors, add it once per sector. It calculates on bar close. How to use it. Use a time-based chart, like 1 or 5 minutes, since each stock's bar is matched to your chart's bar by time. Put it under an index future or ETF and see which sectors join a move: if the index rallies while Finance shows more down stocks than up, the move is narrow. Percent mode makes sectors of different sizes easy to compare. Up and down come from each stock's own bar, so on a daily chart it compares today's close with today's open, not with yesterday's close. Make it yours. Like all my frameworks, it comes with a code review video that explains how it works. Use it as is, learn from the code, or change it yourself or with AI like Claude. All the sector lists sit in one table in the code, so you can build your own sectors or watchlists, or update a list when the index changes. You could also add a net line (up minus down) or an alert at a percent you choose. Have some good trades!
