NC Bar POC Description
NC Bar POC is a POC indicator for NinjaTrader 8, and it comes with the full C# source code. The point of control is the price where most of a bar's volume traded. I wanted that level for every single bar, and I wanted the ones price hasn't come back to yet to stay on the chart as support and resistance. To be honest, not every POC holds: once price trades back to one, it simply turns gray.
How it works. For every bar the indicator adds up the volume at each price and takes the price with the most volume as that bar's POC. Granularity sets the data: Tick (the default) loads a 1-tick series and counts every trade at its price, so the POC is exact. Minute loads a 1-minute series, which is much lighter on long charts; on historical bars without Tick Replay it counts each minute's volume at that minute's close, so the POC is an approximation. When a bar closes above its POC, the POC becomes a support level, and when it closes below, a resistance level. A bar that closes exactly at its POC adds no level. A support level breaks when a later bar's low reaches it, and a resistance level when a later bar's high reaches it.
What you see. Once a bar is complete, its POC is added to a blue line that runs through the POCs of all bars. Untested levels are dash-dot lines that start at their bar and extend right with every new bar: green-yellow for support, orange-red for resistance. When price reaches a level, it turns gray and stops extending. Only the last 100 broken levels are kept, so the chart stays light. Two hidden plots, Support and Resistance, hold the nearest active support below the close and the nearest active resistance above it, and you can see them in the Data Box. It calculates on each tick.
How to use it. Use the nearest untested levels as reference points for entries, stops and targets. Choose Tick for exact levels, and Minute when your chart covers many days and tick data takes too long to load. Minute only makes sense on bars longer than one minute.
Make it yours. Use it as is, learn from the code, or change it yourself or with AI like Claude. You could turn the level colors into settings, add an alert when price touches a level, or let your own strategy read the Support and Resistance plots. Collecting volume, managing levels and drawing are separate parts of the code, so it's an easy base to build on. Have some good trades!
